"3" Artshow at Jordre Studio

This Friday is shaping up to be a big night for art in Phoenix. As usual, the first Friday of every month is part of the First Friday art walks in the downtown galleries. March is also the 20th anniversary of Art Detour, a two day event with thousands of attendees experiencing hundreds of artists’ work in more than 100 galleries and studios. Both events are brought to you by the non-profit volunteer organization Artlink.

There are several shows scheduled on Friday and continuing in to Saturday. Some of which we were able to play a part in by helping the artists produce their work, one of them being 3 at the Jordre Studio. It is a collaborative show of three artists; Jennie Ignaszewski, Tyson Crosbie, and Kyle Jordre. We worked with both Tyson and Kyle for the show.

Tyson will be debuting the second edition of his annual series of fine art photographs, Phoenix 21. On Thursday March 5th from 6-8pm there is also a chance for you to preview the work before it is open to the public on Friday. It is a great opportunity to interact with the artists and see the work up close and personal.

Group Show highlights talents of three artists during Art Detour

Simply titled, "3," this year during Artlink's Art Detour Jordre Studio will be hosting a show of three diverse artists, Jennie Ignaszewski, Tyson Crosbie and Kyle Jordre (owner of Jordre Studio). The opening reception is being held on March 6, 2009 during First Friday, 6PM-10PM. The studio will also be open during regular Detour hours, Saturday, March 7, 10AM - 6PM; Sunday, March 8, noon - 6PM.

Documenting urban beauty - as each is committed to and loves the Valley/Phoenix urban environment. Jennie has lived here longest and has created many images of the community and the local population; Tyson is deeply embedded in the social networking arena and is the creator of #pfn (phoenix friday nights) a group that you can find on twitter/facebook; and Kyle's studio is in the heart of the Grand Avenue arts district and he is active in the Grand Ave. merchants association. Each of these valley artists is committed to our downtown community and through their work, they document urban beauty quite uniquely.

Linda Connor exhibit at the PAM

Since their remodel in 2006, the Norton Gallery at the Phoenix Art Museum has been home to some fantastic photographic exhibits. Their latest installment is the photography of Linda Connor. Linda uses a large format 8x10 view camera to capture her images and then does a direct contact print exposing them with sunlight in her garden. The prints are also toned with gold chloride that adds an inherent luminosity.

If you visit the museum on Tuesday evenings you can get in to see it for free! The museum offers free general admission every Tuesday from 3-9 PM as well as every First Friday from 6-10 PM. Odyssey: The Photography of Linda Connor will be open until March 8, 2009.

Traveling around the world, contemporary photographer Linda Connor seeks places and traditions that convey such intangible qualities as time, faith, and spirituality. Her photographs connect these ethereal concepts to specific locales and to the natural world. She has worked extensively in India, Indonesia, Turkey, Cambodia, Egypt, Tibet, and the American Southwest. Included in the exhibition of more than 70 photographs are some of Connor’s best known images from the past three decades, along with more recent works that have had little public exposure.

Tim Lanterman goes to the dogs

They say never work with children or animals. Tim Lanterman decided to buck the system and ignore conventional wisdom. I would have to say he did an excellent job of proving them all wrong. Tim's latest exhibit aptly entitled Woof is all about dogs. Tim did an amazing job capturing the individual personalities of over 20 dogs he photographed for his series.

Whether you are an dog lover or just a lover of fine art photography, then you should be at the After Hours Gallery this Friday December 5th. The show starts at 7 PM and is part of the First Friday Art Walk in downtown Phoenix.

Teri Terasaki at Gallery 8

This Friday will be the second to last First Friday art walk of '08. A perfect opportunity to check out the Phoenix art scene and perhaps purchase some artwork as a one of a kind holiday gift.

Teri Terasaki will be showing a collection of her work at Gallery 8 along with Craig Wactor. Teri's work is a unique combination of collage and photography. She created a series of 'outfits' out of plastic molding of a female form, each one contains a different themed collage. The series is entitled Waste Reform. As you can see from the image displayed, it is a play on words and content.

Gallery 8 is located on 3rd Street and McDowell in downtown Phoenix. The opening will be from 6-10 PM Friday November 7th.

Harrison Hurwitz at Fluid 5.six gallery

Harrison Hurwitz has over 20 years of experience shooting people. He has a background shooting fashion photography in New York. He now applies that same artistic eye to wedding and portrait work here in Phoenix. Although Harrison is not limited to shooting just people. The subject of the latest exhibit that Harrison is part of is all about dogs. K9 is a collaborative show of 5 photographers being held at the grand opening of the Fluid 5.six gallery (get it - f:5.6) this Friday from 7-10 PM. Fluid 5.six is located at 1105 W. Grand Ave. in downtown Phoenix. It is part of the First Friday events. Just "look for the dogs on the wall".

John Wagner, Tim Lanterman & Bill Timmerman show

John Wagner, Tim Lanterman, and Bill Timmerman will be opening a new show entitled Photographs 3 at the Modified Arts Gallery in downtown Phoenix this Friday the 15th. It is the third year in a row they have done a collaborative show at the Modified Arts Gallery. We were very honored that John and Tim chose us to do printing for them.

We wish all of them the best of luck and great success with their show. Opening reception is August 15th between 6 and 9 PM. The show will run until September 15th.

Lindsay Palmer & Rebekah Brems collaboration

The GREENBELT is a show opening this weekend at the eye lounge that is a collaboration of two very talented fine art photographers Lindsay Palmer and Rebekah Brems. We were honored to do the printing for the show. The concept for the show is a new take on what is considered 'traditional' landscape photography. The images looked amazing, I know the final installation of the work will bring all the aspects together in a truly unique way.

This is also the last show before Lindsay embarks on her grand adventure to the Big Apple for graduate school. We wish her all the best in her endeavors!

Local photographers, Rebekah Brems and Lindsay Palmer, present a collaborative exhibition of contemporary, large-scale photographic works at eye lounge: a contemporary art space in downtown Phoenix. This photographic installation pushes the conceptual boundaries of landscape photography by physically and symbolically deconstructing popular subjects of the traditional landscape in visual art. The G R E E N B E L T reassembles natural imagery in provocative ways, focusing on an ongoing narrative mankind maintains with our environment.

The G R E E N B E L T is on display from June 20, through July 12, 2008.

A FREE, PUBLIC reception will be held at eye lounge on June 20, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

First Friday art-walk will take place the Friday, July 4, 2008.

If you're new to the Valley of the Sun, or have been here awhile, you might have found it a bit difficult to find one resource that offers a comprehensive list of art events that are going on here in town.

Well, look no more, just click on to Showup.com and prepare yourself to become fully immersed in the cultural action going on in and around the Valley. The goal of Showup is to supply a comprehensive calendar of events, bringing together into a single convenient online site; information that was previously scattered or not readily available at all. According to the Showup.com website, Showup is the signature enterprise of Alliance for Audience, which is a non profit corporation that exists to unite, strengthen and promote the arts and cultural community within the Greater Phoenix Region. Nidaa Aboulhosn exhibit at Phoenix Central Library

The first friday of the month is always an exciting time for the Phoenix art community. This Friday May 2nd will be even more eventful. The Artlink First Friday art walk of the downtown Phoenix galleries will feature one of our favorite people, Nidda Aboulhosn. We are honored that Nidaa chose Mighty Imaging to print her exhibit at the Burton Barr Central Library gallery. Her show is entitled "Conatus. Every day.". Conatus (a latin word) refers to an innate inclination of a thing to continue to exist and enhance itself. This "thing" may be mind, matter or a combination of both. That is what Nidaa's work illustrates; the basic human need to not only survive, but to thrive and enrich our world.

There is an artist reception this Friday from 7-9 PM. If you use the shuttle to visit the other downtown galleries it leaves from the library, so be sure to stop in. If you miss coming by this Friday, the exhibit will be up through the end of the month.

Burton Barr Central Library will host an exhibit of photographs by Nidaa Aboulhosn titled “Conatus. Every day.”
May 2 - 29 at the library’s @Central Gallery, 1221 N. Central Ave.

A free artist reception will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, May 2.
The reception is part of Artlink First Friday, a free self-guided tour of downtown Phoenix galleries and art spaces.
Refreshments will be served.

Aboulhosn’s body of work explores the continuity of life and the will to live regardless of the circumstances.
The photographs were taken during her recent trips to Lebanon.

New art from Lindsay Palmer

It is always such a treat to be able to work with new artists and get to be a part of local art scene. Lindsay Palmer is an artist, curator and writer living in Tempe, Arizona. Currently, she is the curator of the Shemer Art Center and Museum. She has a show of her photography coming up the first week of January that will run until the end of the month. Start the new year off right and support local artists!

Lindsay Palmer presents a series of large-scale, color photographs in a solo exhibition, Through a Glass... at eye lounge: a contemporary art space, artist-run gallery in downtown Phoenix. Palmer’s work examines the nature of photography, challenging the medium’s perceived ability to represent reality. Her latest body of work juxtaposes objects from popular culture against an idealized portrait of nature, suggesting a collision between material culture and the environment. In the words of the artist “I expose the landscape for what I see it fast becoming: a backdrop for our metropolis”. The exhibition, “Through a Glass...” questions the ethical responsibility of aesthetic appeal.

A good time was had by all

Dennis Scully put together these time lapse videos of the two opening nights of the Through Each Other's Eyes Mexican Exchange Exhibition at the Historic Southwest Cotton Company last month. What a terrific venue for the artwork. There was great art, music, and food. Truly a good time was had by all. Our thanks to Dennis for the fun recap of the event.

Saturday Artist's Reception

Through Each Other's Eyes

Through Each Other's Eyes is an organization 'whose goal is to promote international understanding via the medium of photography'. Among their many projects, they will select photographers from the US and do a cultural exchange with photographers from a foreign land. In their latest project two local photographers, Dennis Scully and Maurice Sartirana, travelled to Hermosillo, Mexico. Antonio Rodriquez from Mexico came to Arizona to explore. They all had the opportunity to capture some incredible images. We were honored to be able to print them for their upcoming exhibit opening October 5th at 6 PM. There will also be a reception with the artists on October 6th from 6 to 7 PM. The initial viewing will be at the Historic Southwest Cotton Company in downtown Phoenix. The show will then be moved to the Wells Fargo Central branch for another two weeks.

Tim Lanterman in 3 man show with a little help from Mighty

Tim Lanterman, John Wagner and Bill Timmerman will be opening a show this week of their most recent work at the Modified Arts gallery in Phoenix. We did the scanning and imaging to help bring Tim's pieces to life. We were very honored to be a part of his artistic process. They are some beautiful images. We wish all of them the best of luck and great success with their show. Opening reception is August 17th between 6 and 9 PM.

Commercial photographers, Tim Lanterman, John Wagner, and Bill Timmerman have produced a second show of their personal work for Kimber Lannings, Modified Arts gallery, downtown Phoenix. The show will open on the 17th of August, a third Friday, and run till the 14th of September. Tim Lanterman will be showing a new color series of panoramic, landscape photographs. The new work is inspired by painters from the Victorian landscape tradition. John Wagner's emotionally rich photographs, which tend to journal his life experience, will include people, landscapes, and urban settings. This show will feature the most current of his toned gelatin silver prints. Bill Timmerman will also be showing a new series of his toned silver prints of images taken during an eight day hike in the Grand Canyon this year. The Canyon is typical subject matter, but these images although on the traditional side, are not what you consider typical. The show titled "Photographs 2" will be open to the public during the third and first Friday's select evenings and by appointment - call 602-462-5516.

1st First Friday of 2007

For those of you unfamiliar with First Friday's here in Phoenix; it is a monthly event where galleries in the downtown area stay open late and showcase a variety of artists and subjects. The first gathering of 2007 will feature one of our gallery artists: Tony Blei. His show aptly named 'Two Parts Hydrogen, and One Part Oxygen' will be displayed at the Holy Click Gallery 1326 W. Roosevelt Rd. starting this Friday, January 5th, and continuing through the month. Tony chose to use FujiFlex paper for his largest images. The smoothness and high gloss of the paper helped convey the feeling of water in movement.

“Two Parts Hydrogen, and One Part Oxygen” is a celebration of water and it’s amazing beauty. From the surface tension of a mountain stream, and the colors that it reflects, to playful, color-filled drops that dance and splash, each image reveals to its audience something seen, yet unnoticed.
